Vegas Seven (Concerts - The Cosmopolitan's Book & Stage) “This self-described "crooner with an edge" made his bones touring on Holland America cruise ships, and has now laid roots in Las Vegas, the superlative place for his swank style. Brouwer's six-piece band, which includes a standout trumpeter in Eddie Rich, played a wide range of hits in his all-cover-song set, including Van Morrison's "Moondance," Frank Sinatra's "That's Life," Sam & Dave's "Hold On, I'm Coming" and the Black Crowe's "Hard To Handle." Each song got the full crooner treatment, with the band's sound best described as Michael Bublé meets Richard Cheese and Lounge Against the Machine. It was a unique blend of nostalgia and perfect for a casino setting. Even the way Brouwer talks puts you in a hip mindset: As people walked by the Venue, Brouwer asked them, "Hey y'all, what you doing passing by? All the good-looking people are inside."
If the Cosmo must put mix cover bands into the Book & Stage's stellar indie lineup, Brouwer is a good choice. He does the swingin' Vegas lounge thing in a fun and refreshing way.
